Gentle

Gentle.

Gentle like the soft hug
of my thin cotton blue blanket
that wraps me safe, each warm and breezy night

Gentle like the silk strands
of the spider's new home in mine
that he spins knowing well, that it will last this time

I'm not destroying any homes this time

Gentle like the quiet plops
of water on my potted plant
Better cared for, everyday, than the folk who built this house

Having roots is a luxury. Does it know?

Gentle as the flaming hearts
of those out there out of kindness,
those handing out food, truth, and reminders to be humane

Those everyone forgot to thank

My spider friend has another friend
Two homes within my room
I watch them spin, I let them be: in these days of fear and force,

gentle is all I have

One day, she crawled right up to her cooing mother, grabbed her nose and squealed, “Ma!” Her favourite table. He sits by it in the dead of most nights, away from the chatter and the questions. He moves the newspaper away, so it rocks quite nicely. He lays his head on it and lets it sway him, to and fro, to and fro. No nags about his meals, no scrutiny of car...
